East Nashville Hope Exchange (ENHE) operates a six-week summer program designed to improve literacy and leadership skills of children grades 1 through 3 and to strengthen caregiver and community involvement in the children’s education.  During the school year, Hope Exchange provides continued support to families through Family Workshops and Home Visits.  Priority is given to struggling readers attending public schools in the East Nashville area and who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

Registration fee:  $30 (can be waived if parents attend School Year Family Workshops)

What You Should Know…

-If your child lives in Tennessee and is under the age of five, he or she can be enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, regardless of family income.

-Your child will receive one, age appropriate book each month delivered to your home from the time they are born until they reach their 5th birthday.

-This program is a FREE GIFT to you and you will NEVER receive a bill for the books.

-Curious to know how the program funded? Half of the cost of the program is paid for by the Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation and the other half comes from gifts raised by local sponsoring organizations in each county.

-If you are able, we encourage you to support your local county’s sponsoring organization with a gift. You may do so by clicking the green GIVE button above.

Book'em

Book’em is dedicated to empowering Nashville’s children by fostering the love of books and reading.  We do this by recruiting volunteers to read to children by giving books to children, many of whom do not have any books at home.  Research shows that access to books and reading aloud to children greatly increases their ability to learn to read.

Promote kinship family stability for children whose birth parents are unable to care for them. Creating a separate support network for children and their relative caregivers outside of the formal system of foster care is the preferred outcome. They provide short-term case management, caregiver support groups, group and individual counseling, children's therapeutic activity groups, information, education, & resource referrals, material assistance, legal assistance, educational workshops, caregiver and youth enrichment activities, whole family enrichment activities, and one-time emergency financial assistance.

This program serves approximately 10,000 individuals per year and consistently ranks in the top five providers on United Way's "211" information and referral service.
